St. Helens is the county seat of Columbia County, set on the west bank of the Columbia River just north of where the Multnomah Channel meets it.
The town takes its name from its view of Mount St. Helens, about 39 miles away in Washington, and its historic riverfront was the backdrop for the 1998 Disney Channel movie Halloweentown.
